The learning curve
It's amazing how much more information I absorb when I'm genuinely excited about a topic. After a discussion in class about aperture and shutter speed I immediately broke out my 50mm prime lens while walking home and started snapping night shots (sans flash). The beauty of the prime lens is that it lets you open the aperture way up and snap some pretty nifty shots in very low light.
